In winter 2008, angry mobs attacked refugees and asylum seekers living in cities and townships across South Africa. In a nationwide spate of xenophobic violence, 22 000 foreigners were displaced and forced to take shelter in camps set up by the South African authorities. This is just a small glimpse of the resulting violence and dislocation, and my part in the aftermath. The book reflects my own and the voices of those caught up in the violence, who offered their friendship and somehow kept going. I promised I would tell their stories. It's available as an ebook, and shortly in print.
